Josh Sender
Hey, I'm Josh - an artist ↗ and an occasional award-winning graphic designer. Over the last nine years, I’ve worked across different sized design agencies, ranging from 5 people to 300. I’ve re-branded companies, I’ve designed wayfinding for institutions, and I’ve designed many many dozens of websites and design systems (some award-winning). I’ve worked with clients in higher education, non-profits, e-commerce luxury fashion brands, arts institutions, and federal government projects.
At least 3 people, that I know of, have tattoos of logos I've done, AND once I was recognized on the street in NYC by someone who had recently stumbled onto my website through a design showcase.
For more details feel free to reach out ↗. I'm working on updating this site with my recent work. In the meantime, you can take a peek an old old portfolio ↗.
Current
January 2022 - Present
Senior Interactive Designer, Fastspot
Helping lead the design team at Fastspot - designing websites and design systems for cultural institutions, higher education, and multinational corporations.
January 2023 - Present
Adjunct Professor, Maryland Institute College of Art
Teaching Interaction Design (Figma, prototyping, texture of the web and of screens, ux, etc).
Past
May 2021 - January 2022
UX Design Director, Friendly Design Co.
Shaping the web process – discovery sessions, IA, wireframes, determining what to build and how to build it, building out the design system, QA, and occasionally re-branding.
February 2020 - May 2021
Senior Visual Designer, Fjord (part of Accenture Song)
Small part of a big company. Doing product & interaction & service design - designing things for a big, bloated, and hopefully more thoughtful and empathetic federal government. Just a designer, standing in front of a government, asking it to love working people. During my time at Fjord, I almost exclusively worked as a Product Designer on the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid project.
September 2018 - February 2020
Senior Designer, Friendly Design Co.
I was a small part of a small team collaborating with non-profit, education, arts, and political organizations who look to repair our world and strengthen our communities. Working with a small, but mighty, team collaborating with progressive organizations on their brands and websites.
November 2017 - September 2018
Senior Designer, idfive
Designing websites, wayfinding, and branding for clients that do good (non-profits & higher education).
June 2016 - May 2017
Digital Designer, Black & Black Creative
Led the design, wireframing, and prototyping on over a dozen client websites, and explored new branding initiatives for a few. Clients mostly sat comfortably under the "luxury fashion" label, but occasionally extended to digital startups.
June 2014 - November 2014
Digital Designer, Hello Cheri
Hello Cheri was an affordable adult toy e-commerce startup based in New York. As the only designer on a small startup team, I designed the digital assets, communications, expanded the brand’s visual language, and refined the existing e-commerce website.
